Arthur Pearson was the publisher of a popular weekly periodical who liked the miniature Bryce dictionary so much that he placed an opening order for 3,000 copies all with ‘PEARSON’S MINIATURE DICTIONARY’ stamped in gilt on the front cover. We know for certain, to put it in context, that Bryce wholesaled in excess of 100,000 Pearson emblazoned miniature dictionaries in lockets in England and Scotland and that figure appears to have been dwarfed by the number of copies with Pears’ advertising, judging by numbers that come onto the commercial market today. Despite the large number published, the Pearson dictionary appears infrequently today.

https://camdenlockbooks.com/products/bryce-david-son-glasgow-advertising-smallest-english-dictionary-in-the-world-gargoyle-milwaukee-promotional-circa-1906-copy
