Original full brown moroccco. Spine and covers with gilt tooling. Complete with what I have speculatively described as the original and individual retail packaging that held the almanac to a parcel of chocolates when first sold: an arabesque shaped card container with blue silken threads in a loop at the top and pale green silk fringe in adornment at the front. The matching silk base has worn and is somewhat threadbare. It seems lilely that famous confectioners, like Auger, located around the Palais-Royal or the Grands Boulevards would buy quantities of miniature almanacs like Le Petit Diablotin directly from publishers like Marcilly. WorldCat locates two copies of the larger copies worldwide (Pierpont Morgan, and The Strong N.Y.). There are no other copies recorded of this title with such small dimensions. Contemporary illustrations for Tissandier of the copy of this title in the Georges Salomon collection clearly show that it was a larger copy with numbered pages, like the ones in Pierpont Morgan and The Strong. This copy is so much smaller that the numerals and margins were evidently not included, making it exceptionally rare.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0430/3313/3212/files/P5250684_c97b3d69-b084-4384-b2fb-5657f86b37d3.jpg?v=1779725074
https://camdenlockbooks.com/products/petit-diablotin-le-marcilly-rue-st-jacques-no-21-paris-circa-1826
