68 pages, 1 unnumbered leaf of plates : colour and black & white illustrations throughout;  21.5 x 28 cm. Original photographic softcover. Very slighly rubeed along edges. Jomo Kenyatta (c. 1897 -1978) was a Kenyan anti-colonial activist and politician who governed Kenya as its Prime Minister from 1963 to 1964 and then as its first President from 1964 to his death in 1978. The Kenyan government had been preparing for Kenyatta's death since at least his 1968 stroke; it had requested British assistance in organising his state funeral as a result of the UK's longstanding experience in this area & it was orchestrated to deliberately imitate that of deceased British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and attended by Charles, Prince of Wales, Nyerere, Idi Amin, Kenneth Kaunda and Hastings Banda, as did India's Morarji Desai and Pakistan's Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq. Vice president, Moi was sworn in as acting president & subsequently voted into office in a smooth transition of power.
