Original marbled paper endpapers.     Contemporary ink inscription on front free endpapers, dated 1913. Provenance: Irene Crosse.  50 x 57 mm. Original blue morocco; spine with  stamped gilt lettering within elaborately floreate and pointillé art nouveau design; front cover with gilt lettering on inlaid red leather, and  a similar motif to the spine, adjacent to 13 fleur-de-lys in gilt. Unusually good condition. Bondy describes this edition as "excellent. the spines are richly and delicately gilt-tooled" Bondy, 120. Welsh, 3716. Not in Spielmann. WorldCat locates four copies worldwide (National Library of Scotland, & University Libraries of Oxford, Indiana, and Virginia).  The publisher contracted their binders to produce a small number of bindings using luxurious materials and high standards of workmanship for an elite market, of which this is a fine example.
