One of an edition limited to 200 copies numbered 1 - 200 and 25 hors de commerce copies numbered i - xxv. Each copy has been numbered and signed by the author, of which this is number 33. There is also the original handwritten envelope "By invitatation Ron H", containing an invitation to the exhibition on 17th September 2012 at the Tango Club in the Leather Market, signed "very best wishes Greg", and three other related quarto printed prospecti.
Gregory Warren Wilson is a prize winning poet, published author, renowned violinist and visual artist. His career began by training at the Royal Ballet School, he danced at Covent Garden, then studied violin and composition at the Royal College of Music. As a violinist, he was a member of the Razumovsky Quartet and the London Mozart Players. He has worked with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Opera House in Florence. His solo exhibition of abstract designs, Paper Mosaics, has been shown in London, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Warren Wilson’s collection of poetry, The Mercury Fountain (Enitharmon, 2008) was awarded an Arts Council Grant. He has tutored for the Arvon Foundation and founded the Raphael Press. He has also taught courses on art and poetry at The National Gallery, Tate Britain and The Courtauld Gallery.
Provenance: from the Library of modernist abstract artisit Ron Hitchins (1926-2019), purchased from his estate & from his Malvern Road, London E8 house in 2021.Hitchins had a successful first one-man show at the Whibley Gallery 60, George Street, London W1 in 1965.
Hitchins’ work is held by the Glasgow School of Art and at the Rose Lipman Library, Hackney & a bronze bust of Hitchens was cast by friend, Canadian sculptor, Maryon Kantaroff (1933-2019) who in 1992 received the prestigious President's Award of the Sculptors Society of Canada.
In 1960 the BBC’s Monitor arts show transmitted the 23 minute documentary, “The Light Fantastic”, directed by Ken Russell, written & presented by Hitchins. It tells Hitchins’ personal story from Cockney barrow boy to professional Flamenco dancer. In 2019 Chris Gomez of Reach Extra updated the documentary sequences with recent footage of Hitchins, living his whole life in the East End of London and dancing into his eighties.
