Beales was established as 'The Fancy Fair' by John Elmes Beale in 1881 and was the biggest department store in Dorset. Top edges gilt. Original marbled endpapers. Contemporary ink gift inscription on verso of front free endpaper, dated Christmas 1926. Slight occasional foxing. 175 x 115 mm. Publisher’s deluxe binding of full tan morocco, lettering & images of Peter and Tinker Bell in gilt to upper cover & spine. In very good condition despite very slightly rubbed edges in places. Charming gift edition of a book first abridged from 'Peter and Wendy' by May Byron in 1915, with J.M. Barrie's permission, and published under the title Peter Pan and Wendy, for the first time. This version was first illustrated by Mabel Lucie Atwell in 1921.
