Three parts in two volumes, bound in one. In original Italian. 374 printed pages + [4] of adverts, engraved title in first volume, and frontispiece portrait of Dante by R.Grave, after R.Morghen (old stain to lower corner of some leaves, one with chip, and also some dustiness). Dedication leaf to Earl Spencer. Corrall's fine and clear Diamond 4 1/2-point typeface. All edges gilt. Inner gilt dentelles. Original primrose endpapers (very slightly faded). 1.8 x 3.3" Contemporary dark green gilt morocco, spine hand-tooled with gilt lattice grid and horizontal double fillet borders; upper & lower covers with scrolling central motif with cornerpieces within double fillet gilt borders (slightly rubbed, crack at base of spine and to upper joint). An early Pickering title, because in 1826 the publishing house moved to Chancery Lane.
