Psalms of David in metre: according to the version approved by the Church of Scotland, and appointed to be used in worship [plus]  Translations and paraphrases in verse of several passages of sacred scripture collected and prepared by a committee of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, in order to be sung in churches. [164] printed pages. Large type. All edges gilt. Contemporary bright purple watered-silk doublures, signed 'BAGSTER'S BINDING' in gilt at top of elaborate scrolling and greek key pattern inner gilt dentelles. Contemporary ink dedication on blank preliminary page, dated November 8th 1876. Provenance: from Pastor D. Winter to Reverend John Macpherson. Pages well used, slightly age-toned, and thumbed. One gathering very slightly sprung. 160 x 240 mm. Full contemporary dyed black pin-headed sealskin, decorated with a scrolling blind tool ornament, complete with flower corner-pieces; spine with gilt titling, slightly rubbed. A very good example of Bagster & Sons particular style of binding with a  flexible tight spine, the sheets being sewed with thin thread or silk, and possibly associated with bookbinder Joseph Welsh of 10 Queen Street, Golden Square, who was known to have crafted  ‘Bagster's Renowned Bindings.’  This particular edition, not listed in WorldCat.
