22 printed pages. Pre-dates Dublin almanac and general register of Ireland published by Pettigrew and Oulton, Dublin, 1833-1848. No title page or printer, and missing December leaf. Edges smoke stained and corners worn. Age-toning and mild spotting. Some contemporary ink and pencil inscriptions on endpapers, in 'Bangor' and dated 1844. 40 x 70 mm. Original card covers complete with contemporary tartan velvet jacket with tartan silk ties. Rather worn and colours slightly faded. Unrecorded. WorldCat locates no copies worldwide. The usual list of Irish Members of Parliament in this almanac is absent due to its dissolution and the impending elections - the 1832 general election marked a pivotal moment for Irish nationalism. Bangor voted for a Whig M.P. The almanac includes eclipses, lists of prominent residents, costs of transport by coach, a list of post-towns where carriages stopped, and a table of wages - from a minimum of 1s. and 8d. up to £1/5s. per month. These types of publications were often seen as "throwaway" items, intended for immediate practical use, which makes surviving copies relatively rare and interesting despite any defects. The contemporary vernacular tartan binding is also remarkable and highly collectable.
