Two engraved vignettes and seven finely engraved portraits of scientist von Raumer, Mrs. Somerville, Coleridge, Goethe, Cooper, and M.J. Malibran. Contains four pages of engraved music, Rondo in Balfe's Opera of the Maid of Artois. Landon's poems served as lyrical counterparts to the engraved portraits. The final poem, decorated with funereal vignettes, is about Miss Malibran, the famous actress and singer who died in London in 1836. Complete with a historical calendar and information on royal and noble families. Engraved entirely with the burin (but not signed) by Benjamin Rees Davies on a single steel plate measuring about 223 x 147 mm; Davies engraved all the vertical parallel strokes throughout a line before turning the plate to complete the horizontal and joining curves of the letters. The type is less than 3-point and probably printed by McQueen. Each steel plate took at least 13 weeks of unremitting labour. All edges gilt. Original salmon endpapers. 13 x 20 mm. All edges gilt. Landon was a sensationally popular 19th-century British poet and novelist whose passionate, often melancholic verse captivated the public, influencing figures like the Brontës and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. She was a literary entrepreneur who, despite facing intense personal gossip and scandal, successfully navigated a male-dominated industry. Her life was cut short by a mysterious, sudden death in Africa, adding to her legacy . The almanac was explicitly marketed towards women, featuring delicate engravings, gilt-stamped, refined bindings, and portraits of fashionable figures of the day -  a fashionable and highly portable accessory meant to fit into a woman's pocket or handbag, often bought as a Christmas or New Year's gift.
