Complete first edition thus (reprint of eighteenth century Belgian original). Full colour 78 Card Tarot Deck, of 22 Major Arcana cards, 56 Minor Arcana cards contained in four suits of 'Coupe' (Cups), 'Épeés' (Swords), 'Baton' (Rods), and 'Deniers' (Pentacles), with cards measuring 120 x 70 mm. All with square corners, on a tan background with alternating black and white border design.  Illustrated following the original 18th century designs. This deck is also known as the Flemish or Flamand or Vlaamse tarot. It's an old variation on the Tarot de Marseille style of deck. Instead of the usual ''La Papesse' and 'Le pape', cards 2 and 5 are named 'Le 'Spagnol Capitano Eracasse'  (based on the 'Comedia dell' Arte' character, Captain Fracasse) and 'Bacus'. Dated 1974 (according to Sturt R. Kaplan, 'Encyclopedia of Tarot', 1978, page 284. Very good condition with original off-white embossed paper covered box complete with lid with another example of the ace of rods card atttached to the top (very slightly rubbed at corners and edges).

The printing back design of 28 full or partial blue hexagons containing a sun design with a crude face in light blue on an off-white background.

According to Kaplan, this tarot deck was re-produced in a very limited series of only 500 decks, in 1974 --in a box-- by Carta Mundi, Brussels, in Belgium for Aurelia Books, Brussels, a publishing company that was ran by Jan Bauwens who has several reproductions to his name.  Jan Bauwens was a close friend of E. Van Autenboer, the former director of the Turnhout National Playing Card Museum.
