viii, 66 plates, [accompanying description facing each plate] 64 pages [unnumbered], [4 page index at end]. 17 x 26 cm. Original purple cloth. Spine with triple gilt lines and gilt lettering. Faded with two cm strip missing from head of spine. Bevelled boards with gilt ruled border, lettering and author's monogram within decorative motif border. Corners very slightly bumped. Some mild discolouration in the top border of the upper board. Overall a very clean and attractive copy of the second edition (first edition published 1870 and only had 45 plates). William Wilkinson (1819 1901) was a British Gothic Revival architect who practised in Oxford, England. His major works include the Randolph Hotel in Oxford, completed in 1864; but he also built schools, houses, police, industrial and religious buildings in the Gothic Revival style.
