114 plates extracted from the Builder from May 5th 1888 until June 16th 1890. 48 of the plates are double-pages. Two have corners missing from the margins and one has a short closed tear. The remaining 111 plates are in very good condition, preserved in this binding for 132 years. 35 x 24 cm. Contemporary full green cloth with maroon morocco label with gilt lettering "Plates from Builder. 8". Label slightly worn. The Builder was launched 1843 by Joseph Aloysius Hansom architect of Birmingham Town Hall and designer of the Hansom Cab. The scope is considerable, both geographically and in specific content: from Warehouses in Southwark to a Desecrated Chapel (that had been taken over as a cottage & then a barn) in Norfolk; from the (now demolished) Grey Friars house in Dunwich, Suffolk to the Forth Bridge during construction; from fashionable Cheyne Walk, Chelsea town houses to the Leeds Liberal Club in Quebec Street (no longer the magnificent headquarters of the local Liberal party).
