Some scattered foxing. Top edges gilt. Contemporary, engraved, armorial bookplate of George F. Barttelot on front free end paper. 17 x 26 cm. Original dark blue cloth. Spine with gilt lettering and dates (two small tears towards the upper end). Bevelled boards with blind stamped borders- the upper board elaborate gilt design of 9th Regiment (corners slightly rubbed and a trifle scuffed). Loosely inserted a handwritten letter on headed notepaper (West Eaton Place S.W.1) to Charles from Douglas Powell eldest and only survivng son of Sir Richard Douglas Powell (1842-1925), 1st Bart., K.C.V.O. , Physician in Ordinary to the King, and to her late Majesty Queen Victoria and his late Majesty King Edward VII. The letter is concerning the files of a Regimental History, "deploring the loss of old Barttelot", & sending this book with Barttelot's bookplate. Barttelot was a Major in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.
