All 17 volumes in original jade-green cloth boards; lettered in gilt on spines. Complete with original pale peacock-blue or bright-yellow dust-jackets printed in navy-blue or green. Some cloth is dull jade-green and some is brighter - it originally varied from one title to the next. Spines of some dust-jackets faded, some edges slightly worn, a few short closed tears. Four volumes with contemporary ink ownership signatures or inscriptions on the front free endpapers; one volume with owner's bookplate. A few with very mild foxing on the endpapers.
Although some of the volumes in the Uniform Edition are described in the publication note on the verso of the title-page as a 'New edition', they are in fact reprints of the first edition with re-set preliminary page and title-page - and with redesigned dust-jackets - printed by photo-litho offset by Lowe and Brydone from the text of the first edition.
The first twelve volumes in the collection of Uniform Editions were published at the Hogarth Press within Virginia Woolf's lifetime - an imprint that was founded as an independent company in 1917 by Leonard and Virginia Woolf and named from their house-name in Richmond, where they first hand-printed books as a hobby between the two World Wars.
