Title: Leicaism

Publisher: L.César

Publication Date: 1930

Binding: Hardcover

Book Condition: Very Good

Edition: 1st

42 leaves, 7 out of 21 with hand-titling in ink of location, on wove watermarked cream paper (very slightly foxed), followed in turn by 21 monochrome, original Leica prints on photographic paper (beginning to gracefully curl upwards at the corners), 20.5 x 15.5 cm. Hand bound by author in spiral binding, both covers with original printed photographic images in monochrome and taken by L.César. The upper board including printed titling from the hand-written original. Some minor wear to the inner edges of the binding. This is a unique photographic item from about 1925 (the first ever Leica camera) to about 1930. The majority are suburban or central London cityscapes featuring people going about their daily lives. The front cover, for example, shows 17 rowers lifting their 'eight', octuple scull or racing shell from a jetty on the autumnal north bank of the Thames with the powerful image of Hammersmith Bridge and the spires of the Harrods Depository in the background. No further information on the identity of L. Cesar has been found, but he may have lived in West London where many of the photographs were taken. Bookseller Inventory # 4223
