Contemporary brown calf with "Knowledge in a Nutshell" on front cover in blind and titles of the books in gilt on spine (some vertical crazing, upper hinge cracked inside and beginning to feel loose, opening slightly at the bottom). Rounded corners. George Henry James & Co were makers of fancy de luxe cases and leather goods at 14,Newgate Street, London EC and, from c.1903, 48 Old Bailey, London. Provenance: William Usher Crookshank, from Johnstounburn, East Lothian -son of Chichester de Windt Crookshank M.P. Garbett, 17. Welsh, 4167. Welsh only locates Bryce edition - James edition unrecorded. All four books have Bryce as the publisher on individual title pages & it is an additional preliminary printed title page that has the James imprint.
