Four hand-coloured botanical plates (out of 5) depicting flowers and plants discussed in the text. Last page blankThe illustrations closely resemble those of Priscilla Wakefield in the 1796 Elizabeth Newbery edition of 'Introduction to Botany'. Printed by T. Gillet , Salisbury Square. New endpapers. 60 x 92 mm. Rebound in modern green paper covered boards with white printed label. One of the ten books that was sold in a box as the 'Bookcase of Knowledge' or the 'Library of Youth' from 1800. The contents are aimed at the older child and are mostly quite sophisticated. Reprinting of Wallis's 1800 ed. (printed by Cundee) in a new setting of type; "London" in black letter on t.p. (cf. 1800 ed., which uses italic caps.) Very scarce in commerce.
