Forty-eighth edition. (8), 180, (2) printed pages. Copper plate engraved frontispiece (tiny section of blank border absent). Marbled endpapers. Inner gilt scrolling dentelles. All edges gilt. Some browning and light foxing throughout. Attractive inscriptions on front paste-down endpaper and on blank preliminary from owners Samuel Philips (1766) and John Sadler (1747) in flourishing ink hands. 9 x 15 cm. Contemporary black full calf binding. Spine with raised bands and flower and star hand gilt tooled decoration within pointille and triple fillet borders. Boards with lozenge floral gilt hand tooled centre-pieces featuring four small birds, with triple fillet borders and floral cornerpieces. Slightly rubbed, corners bumped, upper hinge split but remaining firm. WorldCat locates nine copies, seven in the UK. Fine 18th century prayer-book hand-tooled early George ii binding (published in the year that Dick Turpin died!). Seller Inventory # 5173
