8 printed pages, printed horizontally. Two blank pages preceding the almanack and 52 blank pages following it. Includes dates of Ramadan, the year 5606 of the Jewish Era, and year 1261 of the Mahommedan Era. Eclipses, elections, fiscal events, and Law terms listed. For the first week of May, we ar informed, the British museum is closed. All edges gilt. Original pale yellow endpapers. Later ink inscription on verso of blank preliminary, 'Taken from my father's pocket', and dated January 31st 1916. 88 x 52 mm. Contemporary full burgundy roan. Very slight bowing to upper cover. Tiny amount of light rubbing. Unknown and unrecorded imprint. There are quite a few well-documented series of nineteenth century and older English almanacs - but some, such as this are local and unspecified imprints that fly under the radar. While the British Museum was undergoing massive expansion in the 1840s and had suffered the vandalism of the Portland Vase in February 1845, the May closure was a planned, regular occurrence, not an emergency closure.
