861 pages. Printed on fine India paper. Purple silk place-marker. All edges red. Original black endpapers (slightly spotted). 48 x 58 mm. Original black morocco (very slightly rubbed and spine with a few vertical creases), with silver plaquette applied to front board. Silver plaquette in fully hallmarked repousse silver - the design based on Sir Joshua Reynold's painting, "Child's Portrait in Different Views: Angel's Heads" (1786-7). London silver marks (leopard's head uncrowned & lion passant -facing left). Letter "o" for 1929. Maker's mark "C&C" for Cohen & Charles (Holborn, London. 1890-1958). Spine title in gilt ("Common prayer, hymns A & M"). Preserved in contemporary velvet covered, blue silk-lined box. Folding lid has original matching brass plaquette of the same Reynolds image (some wear to velvet edges and inside of lid). Box has original black diamond embossed geometrical design paper base. This boxed example of a miniature, silver bound prayer book is very charming and unusual. Seller Inventory # 5188
