860 printed pages. No portrait. Endpapers and some leaves slightly grubby, corners creased or folded over. 40 x60 mm. Original green suede. On spine "The Royal English Dictionary", on front & rear covers, " "Insure with the Royal Insurance Company Ltd., Fire, Life, Accident, Burglary, Annual Income". David Bryce was well known for striking deals to promote other businesses, mainly on the covers of his dictionaries, notably with the Pears Soap company. This Royal Insurance Company variant has never before been recorded and was probably produced in low numbers - perhaps even for one specific event but never repeated. Covers worn and rubbed, corners chipped, significant handling and overall wear - nevertheless a rarity with Royal Insurance Company badgings. Welsh, 2387 & 2392.
