With rare contemporary unmarked silver jointed and hinged cover; beautiful rare floral design to the covers; 'Common Prayer' hand engraved along spine. Marked in italic engraving inside 'manufactured in America'. Spine and covers marked four times on inside with number 8, suggesting that at least 8 similar bindings were made at the time. Tear to crease between front endpapers - three white marks to edges of front and back endpapers, where it appears a previous owner has cleaned the inner silver edges with a cleaning and polishing solution - slight fraying and loss to bottom edges of four of the calendar pages at the beginning. Rounded corners. Inner gilt dentelles. Original brown endpapers. All edges gilt. 57 x 94 mm. Original brown morocco; front cover with gilt embossed cross; spine with 'common prayer' and 'Oxford' in gilt. Not in Welsh.
