Provenance:- Formerly belonging to Yvonne Rosalind Barlow (1924-2017), fine artist, from Muswell Hill & the youngest of five children in a household where finances were very constrained. Always being interested in the arts and music, Yvonne won a scholarship to study at the (London) Central School of Art. Although most of Yvonne’s life has been London-based, it is curious that almost none of the work features London explicitly. The thread running through her painting is undoubtedly beautiful places as a backdrop of dramatic times. During WWII Yvonne remained in London although the art school she attended was evacuated to Northampton. Yvonne always carried a sketchbook, pen and a bottle of ink wherever she went - she sketched people in the street, museums and shops. Yvonne was at that time particularly influenced by Cezanne, Lautrec, Goya and Rembrandt.
