Original primrose endpapers (partly erased inscription on front paste-down). Contemporary inscription on back of frontispiece dated 1840 for Ms Helen Woodforde. All edges gilt. 2.5 x 3.1". Original tan cloth (slightly faded and foxed); spine with elaborate gilt column entwined with climbing foliage and gilt titling above "Town Sights" (small holes worn at head and tail of spine); upper cover with"Town Sights for Little Folks" in gilt within scrolling framework and blind matching borders (corners slightly worn). One in a series of "Tilt's Hand-Books for Children" and sometimes found in miniature bookcase reading "My own library" with other titles. Date of publication from Bondy -Tilt went into business with Bogue in 1840. Bondy describes this book as "of particular London interest, which illustrates amongst other subjects school-girls of the Blue-Coat School, a children's Guy Fawkes procession, an advertising caravan, and placard bearers".
