Title: MORNINGS IN FLORENCE: being SIMPLE STUDIES ...

Publisher: George Allen

Publication Date: 1889

Binding: Hardcover

Book Condition: Near Fine

Edition: 3rd

8vo, iv, 187 printed pages. Lavish brocade pattern, gilt on cream, decorated endpapers. All edges red. Red silk page-marker. Inner gilt dentelles. Contemporary owner's signature on title page. Half-title very mildly foxed. 12 x 18 cm. Contemporary full vellum. Spine with densely interwoven hand-tooled geometric designs in gilt & gilt lettering. The boards have chamfered edges, and two rectangular panels of hand-tooled floreate scrolling - the upper board with a large Fleur de Lys gilt device. The book has its original contemporary red waxed cloth dust jacket with a densely decorated floral paper verso. The book then is protected further by a matching red slipcase, some wear, creases and short split. The bookbinder, though unmarked, was almost without any doubt Carlo Glingler's bookbindery, considered the best artistic bookbinder in Rome at the time and one of the greatest Italian bookbinders in history.
