[20],206 full-page illustrations after ink drawings by Szegedi Szuts. Top edge black. 18.5 x 27 cm. Original beige woven cloth lettered in black to upper board and spine, some extremely light age-toning, with tail edges rough trimmed, faint endpaper browning, but presents very well. With a graphic design by Szuts on the cover. Impressive series of pictures by the Hungarian artist about the career of "Little Hussar" as a staunch opponent of the 1914-18 war. Mottram's Introduction here describes the Hungarian artist as having stated honestly, though very probably too strongly for some people, his view of a piece of contemporary history - namely the Great War. The series of pictures provides a narrative that takes the Little Hussar from a contented youth to a battle-ravaged adult, and ends with his execution. The intensity of the drawings is sometimes reminiscent of Masereel's "Destins 1939.". Bookseller Inventory # 4388
