Pearson's Miniature Dictionary c late-1890/1900

1" x 3\4"

Red roan with yellow edges. Title in gilt on front cover and spine.

Housed in a hinged, white metal (silver plated) case that is tarnished, with a Magnifying Glass" (inset to lid). Engraved on the rear of the case, is a library style globe of the world

surrounded by books.

Mr Pearson, who was of the 'notable weekly gave Bryce his first order of 3000 copies of the dictionary upon starting out with his miniature book venture. This maybe one of the first mini dictionaries Bryce

published. The frontispiece reads the same as other dictionaries: by Bryce 'The Smallest English Dictionary in the World' printed by David Bryce and Son Glasgow. It is no bigger than a stamp yet it is a full dictionary in miniature and you need a powerful magnifying glass to read it. It is bound in burgundy Morocco leather and it has a preface and list of abbreviations in the front. It has 384 pages and measures a tiny 27mm x 20mm

Sold by a collector in a public auction at Bonhams, 9th November 2022.
