63 pages + 32 pages of publisher's adverts dated June 1877 at end. Blue and grey floral endpapers (remains of old paper label on front free endpaper). Some contemporary bibliographic notes in pencil on title page and verso of front free endpaper (with a misattribution of this particular work to Robert Bridges). Pages evenly toned. Hinges split but firm. 13.5 x 19.5 cm. Original brown cloth, spine with gilt lettering and decorative publisher's initials (Slightly worn at head & tail). Bevelled maroon boards with embossed double black fillet and black guilloche borders around central gilt arabesque lotus motif (corners very slightly worn). William Cox Bennett (1820-95) was a polymath: an English poet and songwriter; also a watchmaker and journalist; Bennett was a member of the London council of the Education League; notably, Bennett was instrumental in securing Liberal MP, William Ewart Gladstone's return to Parliament for the borough of Greenwich, 1868, on becoming the Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.
