Four fine portraits of Napoleon, Marie v. Hessen, Caroline Norton (writer of the poems featured here), and I.S.Knowles; one allegorical figure and one view of Caernarvon Castle. Engraved by H.R.Davies in Excelsior, 3-point typeface. Lacks silk place-marker. 14 x 20 mm. Contemporary, elborately gilt-tooled, black, morocco in similarly hand-finished slip case with morocco overlays lettered with title, in hand-made, gilt-tooled fitted box with silk and velvet lining (slightly rubbed, particularly near original metal catch at front; two old labels and one remnant on inside lid and underneath) & tortoiseshell folding miniature magnifying glass (small split near top). The sixth of eight annual issues by Schloss. Caroline Norton, Lady Stirling-Maxwell (1808-77), the grand-daughter of Richard Brinsley Sheridan, was a well-known author and a social reformer (and notorious victim of marital injustice).
