xi, [blank], 210 printed pages, [blank]. With twelve plates in colour and text decorations by Ernest H. Shepard. Neat ownership signature, dated 1932 on front free endpaper. One plate loose with marginal edge wear. 15.5 x 21 cm. Original pale blue cloth; spine has gilt lettering and double ruled head and tail; upper cover with gilt Christopher Robin design within double gilt ruled border with floral design in each corner. Very slight wear, spine extremely slightly faded. The binding has a very minor twist where the front board sits marginally forward of the rear board. This, the first edition of the combined volume, also represents the first appearance of Shepard's delightful colour plates, all of which are present. "Now that I have begun the preface, I can probably go on with it somehow, but the invention of a title has proved too much for me. All I can think of is The Christopher Robin Verses, and all I can say for it is that I prefer it to The Milne Verses. Some such title, I suppose, is demanded by the occasion. Almost any other would have implied a new collection, and The Shepard Drawings might have suggested (not unpleasantly to some, it may be) that the artist was having the book to himself. In a sense, of course, he is, for it is his new coloured illustrations which justify it." - Author's Preface for Parents. Bookseller Inventory # 4279
