Steel engraved portrait frontispiece and additional engraved title page, xxiv, 455 printed pages plus 16 page publisher's catalogue at the end. Brown endpapers, front hinge slightly split at the top but holding very firm. Top edges gilt. Text printed in double-column throughout. Pages age-toned and one top corner at page 53 is missing, not affecting the text. Incorporates some of the many typographical quirks that characterise Tristram Shandy, such as Yorick's black page, the marbled pages, the Latin simultaneous translation of Slawkenbergius' Tale, the flourishing of Trim's stick and so on. 17 x 24 cm. Original textured full green cloth in imitation of a half morocco binding. Spine with embossed 'raised bands', gilt lettering within single ruled border and four stylised gilt embossed floral designs in the compartments. The boards are embossed to resemble the leather corners and half leather spine. Some slight edge wear, but still presents very well. Bookseller Inventory # 4281
