The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New
Testaments Translated out of the Original Tongues...
by His majesty's special command.
OWNED BY NORA BRYCE, SEE BELOW...
In a cream Morocco Oxford Binding that has soft overlapping yap edges and having a fine gilt surrounding
edge to this.
Gilt title to spine. All edges gilt
A remarkable bible in excellent condition with white silk ribbon markers. Internally finished in soft glove leather.
BECAUSE IMPORTANTLY... this has an inscription on the front fore pages that reads "Nora Bryce-Given to
me by Davie's father on my first visit to 60 Berkeley St.
Glasgow-August 1914."
Hence this is purportedly a bible that belonged to David Bryce himself and presented to Nora Bryce on her first visit. And inscribed as such in her own hand. then
Who is Nora Bryce, the David Bryce's son's girlfriend/ fiancé/wife?
The address is correct! The date seems OK!
Possibly a one-off.
Not in NLS collection

Following obtaining a Bryce family photograph with family history' on the rear (from Michael Garbett)...
I was looking at the photograph. It says on the rear (giving details of all people in the photograph) "David Bryce Jnr. (who married Noreen and went off to Canada)"
Now this lead me to my own catalogue of the Bryce books! have. Among which is one that I obtained from Canada
Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments Translated out of the Original Tangues etc. But interestingly bound in cream morocco with yap edges and with a fine gilt border: gilt title to spine as well as all
edges gilt. Internally also finished in very fine leather and with white silk ribbon markers. It was no ordinary bible produced for sale, in my opinion,
but one custom made.
Also inscribed inside is "Nora Bryce-Given to me by Davie's father on my first visit to 60 Berkeley St. Glasgow August 1914,"
Now I'm speculating; with the Canada connection from the photograph and also from where I got the wee bible: plus that David Bryce Jnr married Noreen as mentioned on the rear of the photograph but not actually in the photograph, who might well have been 'Nora' as signed in bible I have, (time could have change Nora to Noreen if there are no actual family records and this is an oral history'?). It would be interesting to find out when DB Jnr emigrated to
Canada?
