Publisher: D. Bogue. Late Tilt and Bogue. London.

30 printed pages (near fine condition of contents). All edges gilt. Original yellow end papers. 35 x 62 mm. Original ribbed green cloth, gilt title within a decorated scrolling floreate frame on upper board (two miniscule marks). The series of Tilt's Almanacs had remarkable longevity from 1837 to 1886. David Bogue (1807-56) was a print and book publisher who came to London from Scotland in 1836 and worked as shop assistant to Charles Tilt at 86 Fleet Street; in partnership with Tilt from 1840, and succeeded him in 1842 (purchasing the firm for about £50,000). His chief success was as Cruikshank's principal publisher, but his rival H G Bohn imitated many of his ventures. This is the last year Tilt's Almanac was published by D. Bogue, the following year it had been handed on to W. Kent after Bogue's death. A close resemblance to the London Almanac, although set with typeface rather than engraved. With calendar & information on the Royal Families of England & Europe, bank holidays, Bankers, stamps, Legal terms and Ministers in Government (Lord Palmerston was the First Minister, the Duke of Wellington was the Minister "of Horse"). This year not found in Spielmann nor in Welsh. No copies located worldwide in WorldCat. It is hard to imagine a copy in much better condition. Seller Inventory # 5243
