Frontispiece, engraved title-page, 62 printed pages, plus 2 pages of publisher's adverts at the end. 18 tissue-guarded copperplate engravings of views. Two contemporary ink ownership signatures on half-title page. One with an inscription to his wife Mary matches the engraved heraldic bookplate of George Banks on the front paste-down endpaper. The second is Hermon Hodge, Sarsden. Some offsetting. Scattered foxing throughout. 14 x 21.5 cm. Contemporary full tree calf. Spine with gilt rules and hand-tooling, with gilt lettering on a red morocco label. Boards with naturalistic mottling and swirling "tree" effects. Both hinges split and a little vulnerable. Corners and edges slightly worn, particularly at the head and foot of the spine. A binding that has gained huge character over 200 years despite its physical tenderness. Provenance: George Banks (1777-1843) was a wealthy cloth merchant & local industrialist and in 1818, Lord Mayor of Leeds. St. Catherine's Hall, Doncaster, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, was built for George Banks in 1827. Robert Trotter Hermon-Hodge, 1st Baron Wyfold(1851-1937) was a British Conservative politician (MP from 1884-1918), huntsman, Freemason & Colonel of the Hussars. Bookseller Inventory # 4417
